As part of the preparations of the College of Computer and Information Sciences for the new academic year, the College held the induction program for freshmen over a full school day starting from 9 am to 12 pm. The participating college parties were the College Vice deanship for Educational Affairs, the Student Activities Unit, the e-Learning Unit and the Professional Academies. Together, these parties identified the general system of the college and the various sections, student activities, as well as the training of students on the e-learning system D2L.
Mr. Sulaiman Al-Azmi, Head of the Student Activities Unit, welcomed freshmen at CCIS, briefed them on the general system of the College and reviewed the services offered by the Deanship of Student Affairs. Mr. Al-Azmi also talked about student activities and the importance of taking part in them. He also stressed the importance of participating in competitions as well as internal and external trainings, which will contribute to enriching the student's professional record.
After that, the head of the E-learning unit Mr. Azzan Al-Khorim, made a detailed and practical explanation of the tools and operations offered by the electronic learning system (D2L), which aims to provide an electronic learning environment using modern technologies in the academic field to provide good and effective content for both teacher and learner. Mr. Azzan numbered also the advantages of this type of education which are saving the time, effort and cost, in addition to the possibility for the computer to improve the overall level of academic achievement, and help the faculty member and student to provide an attractive learning environment.
Mr. Azzan also dealt with the e-learning environment and the extent to which it is similar to the traditional learning environment. D2L however, has faster accessibility and ease of options associated with different aspects of the academic process. Moreover, it does not require reliance on the time and space factors of the traditional academic process, which allows more flexibility to communicate between the faculty member and students and carry out the various methodological activities of the course The session on explaining the advantages of e-learning can be summarized in the following points:

  • Developing students' skills and ability to interact with the changes of the age through modern technologies.
  • Activation of the electronic and distance learning system at the College of Computer and Information Sciences.
  • Helping students with the electronic and distance learning system.
  • Provide students with the necessary skills to use communication and information technologies.
Mr. Fahd Al-Balawi also met freshmen to talk about professional academies and their importance. The talk included:

  • an overview of the academies available at the college,
  • stressing the importance of registering in academies,
  • ways of benefiting from them during the years of study,
  • the role of academies in developing the level of students,
  • Free courses offered by the academies for students,
  • resources and learning resources available through academies,
  • free software available to students,
  • Discounts on e-books and courses that students can take advantage of through enrollment in academies.
  • Elective courses offered by the academies.
Mr. Fahd Al-Balawi, Director of the Student Innovation and Creativity Center, alos spoke about the role of the Center in supporting students' projects and innovations and explained the procedures used to obtain financial or scientific support for innovations. The students made then a tour of the Innovation Center at the College. Mr. AL Balwi presented the sections of the Center and explained the method of booking appointments to benefit from it either in the graduation or innovations and inventions projects.

The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Dr. Mohammed Al-Shehri welcomed after that freshmen and talked about the most important policies of the college and the behaviors that the students should enjoy. He also introduced students to different scientific departments and the tracks they offer as well as the differences between them in terms of the nature of the courses and the nature of the study based on the English language. The Vice-dean urged students to be diligent in following up the study and in participating in the curricular and extra-curricular activities that the college organizes throughout the academic year.
