As investment for the success of the activities of "My life is beautiful without poisons” exhibition and the social activation caused accordingly, there was our seeking that the university becomes clean environment free from smoking. Thus, the first session of the Smoking Prevention Committee started at the University on Sunday, 23/1/1433H. That committee, whose foundation decision was issued by the Rector and began in determination of the tasks, the distribution of specialties, drafting of regulations and bulletins which express itself. It was recommended that these meetings become periodical in order to follow up the resulting recommendations and decisions. His Excellency the Vice Rector, Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Ibrahim Al Hugail praised during his opening speech of the session, the laudable efforts in this field exerted by the Deanship of Student Affairs represented by the Dean Dr. Faisal Al Homoud, especially their outstanding efforts in the exhibition which was held recently, entitled "My Life is Beautiful without poisons" and gains of community achievements of the university in health awareness with the participation of the Directorate General for Narcotics Control and a lot of charity societies and national centers in the region.
This campaign undertakes to provide advice and make the instructional signs included educational phrases that urge to stop smoking, and that the person should become self encouraged to change his life to become a pure and beautiful life with no smoke or pollution.
Some of the educational phrases recommended by the Committee to support its deployment in the student community was: (Your health .. is not yours alone), (Your health .. is your fortune), (Avoid slow death!), (I will not smoke, and I will change my life), (My life is beautiful without smoking ), (Smoker never become older ; because he dies in his youth!), and other beautiful phrases that show the harmful effects of smoking, and encourages to stay away of it, and that we have to invest our health and the strong arms of our youth to support the renaissance of the nation and building its future.
The Smoking Prevention Committee recommended extending the scope of this awareness campaign till 3/3/1433H. Until such date, the Committee would have completed their perception of the regulation governing the prevention of smoking within the university community, and make it clean environment free of smoking, and set the penalties that will be applied on those violating these decisions. The Commission recommended that reading these regulations and its items become a condition to access the website that includes students’ results in order to realize the message of awareness and guarantee it reaches to each member of the student community. The Committee also recommended the selection of Mr. Msaed Al Joufan to become a secretary for this Committee.
There is no doubt that by these directions and this awareness, we will succeed in achieving a university community completely free of smoking.
