THE UNIVERSITY SCOUTS IN THE INTERNATIONAL SCOUTING PROGRAM IN WALES, UNITED KINGDOM

 

 

With the support and guidance of the Rector, Dr. Khalid Bin Sa'ad Al-Mogren and the follow-up of His Excellency, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Faisal Bin Abdullah Al-Hamoud, a number of the University Scouts participates in the International Russell Course held by The Saudi Arabian Boy Scouts Association in cooperation with the World Scout Fund in Wales, United Kingdom during the period from 5 - 11 - 8 - 1433 H with the participation of 80 scouts of Higher Education Institutions and Youth Organizations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The university delegation is headed by His Excellency the Vice Dean of Student Affairs Mr. Khalid Bin Ibrahim Alafaisan. The course was opened by Professor Abdullah Bin Suleiman Al-Fahd, a member of the World Scout Committee and a Vice President of the Saudi Arabian Boy Scouts. Addressing the audience at the opening ceremony, Professor Al-Fahad delivered a speech where he mentioned about the history of Russell Project when the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz in 2001, when he was crown prince, called upon all Scouts all over the world to be messengers of peace during his receiving for the participants in the 23rd Arab Scouts Conference in Riyadh. After that, the King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf who is the Emeritus President of the World Scout Fund was interested in this initiative. Several steps were taken to activate this initiative which began by establishing the 1st world peace camp to introduce cultures and cultural exchange hosted by the Kingdom in the city of Jubail in 2006. In 2007, more than ten million scouts representing 110 countries were able to join the project. The second phase of the project according to the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques has started to make a two-thirds of scouts in the world who are around 30 million Scouts active messengers of peace who can change this world to better situation, to deliver peace messages to nearly 200 million people in at least all over the world. After that, a group of participants presented songs of Scouting about Messengers of Peace, followed by Memorial photo sessions for participants. The program of the course includes a session seminar on the project of Messengers of Peace and its Global Prospect participated by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Omar Nassif, Head of the World Federation of Muslim Scouts, Mr. Abdul Mohsen Al-Bader, Advisor of the President of the Boy Scouts in the project of Messengers of Peace, Mr. John Qiqan, Director of World Scout Fund and Mr. Peter from the organization of World Scouting. The program also includes lectures and training sessions provided by a group of academics and experts in the Saudi universities about the societal problems and the role of skills of peace in solving them, environmental and health issues, communication skills, and the strategy of the Messengers of Peace. Professor Al- Fahad attended the opening ceremony of the preliminary study of the emblem of wood held by the Assembly in Port Talbot in Wales, UK. 40 members’ participants Student Affairs Deans, their Deputy and who are in their positions from institutions like Higher Education and youth institutions in the Kingdom. Then, the commander of the study, Mr. Saleh Al-Harbi a training session about the policy of leadership development and the stages the trainer would go through to be awarded the wooden emblem. Then, Abdullah Al-Fahad presented a training session about the Scout Movement, definition, objectives, principles, means of organization and the concept of Scout Approach. Night Ceremonies which are one of the best traditions of Scouting are held usually in the evening after the end of the day camp where scouts offer all kinds of presentations that are full of fun as a means to form the personality of scouts and to promote an atmosphere of simplicity in the relations between the participants, as well as to show talent and give them the opportunity for training.
