Teacher’s Oral Questions and Their Relation to Effective Teaching and Learning of Foreign Language

• Introducing different types of verbal questions and the nature of each pattern.

• Identifying the purpose of using a particular pattern and its effect on eliciting knowledge, information, facts, opinions, etc.

• Learning what to follow and what to avoid when asking questions.

The presenter pointed to the various types of verbal questions used by the teacher during lectures, the discussions and the differentiation between their respective functions and their relation to the achievement of learning outcomes of a course. Question Types: Warm up, open, closed, eloquent, illustrative, evaluative, deductive, etc. The question types are linked to Bloom's Taxonomy of cognitive objectives. Therefore, there are questions that measure the ability to remember information, others measure the ability to solve problems, to apply, analyze, evaluate, etc.
