As part of the efforts made by the university to serve the community, a group of students and faculty members from the College of Medicine at MU conducted in cooperation with the Medical Services Department a field trip to Sha’ab village on Monday.
The aim of the trip is to increase the level of health awareness for students and citizens in the village; conduct a field survey to identify the demographic composition of the village; discover the common health problems in the village; set a health plan for the village; and determine the social, economic and educational status of residents in the village.
A study was also conducted to examine the environmental situation, including drinking water. Basic health services were provided such as consultation and dentistry clinics.
The students began the trip by a visit to Sha’ab elementary school to educate the schools’ students about many health issues such as nutrition, obesity, harmful behavior (bullying – video game addiction), personal hygiene and diabetes.
Surveys were distributed to residents of the village to determine the common health problems and the demographic composition.
A visit was paid to the village’s health center to examine its workflow.
