IN COOPERATION WITH THE ASSOCIATION OF BREAST CANCER: UNIVERSITY CONCLUDES (NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS)

Majmaah University concluded its activities held on (National Campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness) in cooperation with the Association of Breast Cancer under the logo (Reveal the Secret) in the multi-purpose Hall from 11 of October to 15 of October 2015. The implementation of the activities was achieved through coordination among the College of Education in Majmaah, College of Medicine, College of Applied Medical Science, Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education, College of Computer Science and Information Technology, as well as the Department of Media and Public Relations at the University. The lounge has been painted pink during this period, and the familiar color of the Campaign against Breast Cancer has lighted its facilities. Furthermore, the participating colleges introduced their educational activities through a number of corners in order to raise awareness of the disease. The first corner showed the causes of the disease and methods of treatment. The second was concerned with distributing brochures carrying the campaign’s logo, and the third corner distributed cups and brochures showing the factors leading to the spread of breast cancer. The fourth one distributed pamphlets explaining various treatments of the disease, ranging from surgery and treatment using radiation and chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, to the latest directed immune or biological therapy. The fifth corner introduced foods that can help reduce the incidence of breast cancer in addition to the hospitality corner. The seventh corner presented practical explanations of self-examination and the right way to perform it. Moreover, the campaign included lectures by the Faculty of medicine, consultants and specialists. The lectures, which started on Sunday 11 of September until 15 of October, presented (messages and interventions for breast cancer awareness) given by Dr. Islam Muhammadin, an internist, Dr. Hoda Hakim, a specialist of community medicine and public health, Dr. Sawsan Mustafa, a consultant of community medicine and public health, and Dr. Ghazalh Bhatti, a consultant of general and breast surgery. The lecturers discussed several topics, such as: definition of breast cancer, the causes of its spread, the facts that should be known about it and its history, how to detect it, the factors that increase the chance of infection, methods of treatment and prevention, as well as some tips to each woman and method of self-examination. On Tuesday, October 13, a lecture by (the Flower of Breast Cancer Society) was given by Dr. sawsan Mustafa, a consultant of community and public health at the Faculty of medicine at Majmaah University. There was a special corner for answering questions and distributing brochures and pamphlets about the disease involving Dr.Nazia Khan, Dr. Wajda Ara Israa, Dr. Himma Hareedi, Dr. Ghazala Bhati, Dr. sawsan Mustafa, Dr. Hoda Hakim. Wednesday the 14th of October was assigned for self-examination of breast cancer by Dr. Ghazala Bhatti, a consultant of general and breast surgery from the College of Medicine. The Ward of self-examination was full of women from Majmaah University, Public Education and community. At the end of the campaign, certificates of appreciation were distributed to all participating faculties under the supervision of the Department of Public Relations and Media on campus. The show was well received, and attendees paid tribute to the show and its success, along with the fine touches that brought together science, art, and production in an integrated effort.
