MU RECTOR LAUNCHES CENTRAL LIBRARY EXPANSION PROJECT AND SMART LIBRARY

In the presence of the vice-rectors and the dean of Library Affairs, Dr. Shadi Al-Shuwayer, MU rector, Dr. Khalid Al-Muqren launched the central library expansion projects at main campus.

In a tour of inspection to the library’s facilities such as digital information resources hall, reading zones, academic writing centers, dissertation halls, Dr. Al-Shuwayer briefed MU rector about the initiatives conducted by the deanship, emphasizing that the expansion of the digital library came to meet the needs of the university students, faculty members and researchers.

The central library space after expansion is 2500 square meters with 8 new facilities and approximately 50000 books added, said Al-Shuwayer.

MU rector also cut a ribbon to inaugurate the digital library project which aims to promote the culture of reading and in line with the university’s strategic plan. The basic idea of this project is that all buildings of the university are provided with tablets through which users can access the SDL and the unified search portal (mu find).

A rhetorical ceremony was held to celebrate this occasion which began by a film highlighting the developmental stages of the central library as well as its departments, programs and projects.

In a speech delivered to audience, Dr. Al-shuwayer point out the major achievements of the Deanship of Library Affairs during the academic year 1441-1442 AH and the future visions.

79544 news books are supplied to the university libraries and the subscription to electronic database increased to 169. Over 100 workshops were conducted for more than 5000 beneficiaries, and more than 3500 have attended 13 cultural and social activities and initiatives.

The dean added that a library was established for children and the Unified Search Portal and Podcast initiatives were launched.

Addressing the audience, MU rector expressed his gratitude with the progress achieved by the Deanship of Library Affairs particularly the expansion of the central library and the smart library, hoping that this success would continue in the future.  

At the end of the ceremony, a cooperation agreement was signed with King Abdul Aziz Public Library (KAPL). The agreement was signed by the dean Dr. Al-Shwayer and the director of the unified Arabic index center at KAPL, Dr. Saleh Al-Musned, to cooperate in areas of training and exchange of scientific outcomes.
