Overview

The Postgraduate Program in Creed and Contemporary Doctrine was officially launched in the Department of Islamic Studies at the College of Education in Majmaah at the beginning of the second semester of the 1433/1442 AH academic year. The program was developed in accordance with quality standards and academic accreditation, ensuring a structured curriculum that balances theoretical and applied knowledge.

Program Structure:

  • ⁠Total credit hours: 38.

    • Thesis: 6 credit hours.

    • Coursework: 32 credit hours, distributed across three semesters.

This program plays a pivotal role in higher Islamic education, providing students with deep knowledge in Aqeedah and contemporary doctrines. It aims to equip graduates with specialized expertise, enabling them to contribute effectively to academic research, community development, and scholarly discourse.

Objectives

  1. Preparing scientifically and professionally distinguished cadres in the fields of Islamic creed, religions, sects, and doctrinal schools.
  2. Developing students’ critical thinking abilities based on a sound and moderate methodology, enabling them to analyze, critique, and evaluate religions, sects, and doctrines in accordance with the principles and foundations of Islamic creed.
  3. Enabling students to link theoretical knowledge with practical applications, especially in dealing with emerging and contemporary doctrinal issues.
  4. Enhancing critical and creative thinking skills, communication abilities, use of technology, and applications of artificial intelligence.
  5. Equipping students with research skills and adherence to research ethics.
  6. Producing specialized doctrinal research that addresses contemporary challenges and developments in creed, using rigorous scientific research methods and objectives.
  7. Fulfilling the requirements of social responsibility with the aim of achieving sustainable development.
  8. Instilling a balanced and moderate approach, and fostering a well-rounded personality grounded in Islamic and national values.
  9. Providing outstanding training in the sciences of Islamic creed for international students through the scholarship program.

Requirements

  1. ⁠The applicant must be Saudi or hold an official postgraduate scholarship if they are non-Saudi.
  2. ⁠Must have obtained a bachelor’s degree from a Saudi university or a recognized foreign university in Islamic Theology (Usul al-Din) or Sharia, or an equivalent specialization.
  3. ⁠Must have good conduct and behavior and be medically fit.
  4. ⁠Must provide two academic recommendations from professors who have previously taught them.
  5. ⁠If employed, the applicant must obtain approval from their employer.
  6. ⁠Must have obtained at least a "Very Good" GPA in their undergraduate studies. However, the Graduate Studies Council may accept applicants with a "Good" GPA, provided their GPA in specialized courses is at least "Very Good".
  7. ⁠Must pass the aptitude test required for admission.
  8. ⁠Must have memorized five sections (Juz') of the Qur’an (as determined by the department).
  9. ⁠Must pass the personal interview conducted by the department.
  10. ⁠Admission criteria weight distribution:
    • 40% - Aptitude test score.
    • 60% - Bachelor’s GPA.
