Committee of Student Activities in the College of Engineering, under the supervision of members of the teaching staff in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, has organised a scientific visit to the General Establishment of Desalination ( Water Pump Station 2 ) in Majmaah governorate on Tuesday 23/01/1435 H. The General Establishment of Desalination is revolving around desalinating the sea water and generate the electrical power out of it , in addition to deliver fresh water to the different regions of the Kingdom.
The delegation was received by Eng. Ibrahim bin Mohammad Al Sakran, Supervisor of Maintenance in the Station, and Mr. Fahd Al-Mutairi, Operation Supervisor in the Station, where they welcomed the collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and the University of Majmaah in such a case that enriches the practical and applied study for the college students. Furthermore, the hosts accompanied the visiting delegation across all the facilities of the Pump Station and provide detailed explanation of the parts of the Station and the function of each one of these parts .
The foundation is pumping water from the Pump Station in Majmaah to the Station of Shaqra with a distance of (90 KM) via water pipes diameter (90 inches), as well as to pump water to each of the Pump Stations in Ghat and Al-Zulfi, where the Pump Station in Ghat, in turn, is pumping water to the Pump Station in Buridah governorate without any pushing or using pumps due to the sliding route of the pipelines, down more than (50 meters) in Ghat governorate, and cut a distance (103 km) to get to Buridah governorate via concrete pipelines.
The delegation also had a tour to recognize the maintenance section in the Station, which contains a mechanical workshop, an electrical workshop, equipment maintenance workshop, and the civil service workshop. At the end of this scientific visit, the students expressed their happiness because of the contribution of this scientific visit to enrich their practical experience in the field of desalination and Water Pump Stations, their components and operation as well. Nonetheless, the delegation decided to organise another scientific visit very soon to identify the damaged pipes by water pressure and the ways of maintenance.
