College of Nursing leads Health Awareness Campaign on Breast Cancer at the Ministry of Interior Club

Posted in 2025-10-28

Under the patronage of Dr. Ashwaq Asiri, Dean of the College of Nursing, a health awareness initiative was held at the Ministry of Interior Club in Riyadh, as part of the global Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The initiative aimed to promote the importance of early detection and to foster a culture of preventive health among club members and their families, through an engaging community event that combined education with hands-on learning.

The event began with an awareness lecture by Dr. Widad Al-Enezi, titled “The Importance of a Healthy Lifestyle.” She highlighted how balanced living can reduce the risk of diseases, breast cancer in particular, through healthy habits such as good nutrition, regular physical activity, stress management, and avoiding unhealthy behaviors. The lecture sparked lively discussions and thoughtful questions from attendees.

The visitors explored multiple interactive awareness booths that were set up by the Nursing College students under the supervision of faculty members. Each booth offered valuable insights into different aspects of breast cancer awareness:

  • About Breast Cancer: Facts about the disease and its prevalence locally and globally.

  • Risk Factors: Genetic, behavioral, and environmental elements that may increase the likelihood of developing breast cancer.

  • Early Detection: Guidance on proper self-examination techniques and the lifesaving role of mammograms.

  • Signs and Symptoms: Visual displays showing early indicators that warrant medical attention.

  • Healthy Living: Practical tips on diet and daily routines that help prevent illness.

  • Digital Health Tools: Information about national platforms such as Mawid and Sehhaty, and how to easily book mammogram appointments online.

The initiative received wide appreciation for its well organization, diverse content, and creative approach to community health education. It also provided Nursing College students with a meaningful opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in real-world community service.
