SDG13: CLIMATE ACTION

Saudi Arabia has shown a strong commitment to climate action, recognizing the global significance of addressing environmental challenges. The Kingdom is actively working towards reducing its carbon footprint, promoting renewable energy sources, and implementing initiatives to protect the environment.

In response to the urgent need for climate action, Saudi Arabia has launched various programs and policies to enhance environmental sustainability. The country is investing in renewable energy projects, such as solar and wind power, to diversify its energy mix and decrease reliance on fossil fuels. Additionally, there is a growing emphasis on energy efficiency and conservation practices.

Majmaah University is aligning itself with the national goals for climate action by integrating awareness initiatives into its academic and extracurricular activities. The university recognizes the role of education in shaping environmentally conscious individuals and contributing to a culture of sustainability.

Majmaah University organizes awareness events, workshops, and seminars focused on climate action and environmental protection. These events aim to educate students about the impact of climate change, the importance of sustainable practices, and the role each individual can play in mitigating environmental challenges.

The university actively engages students in environmental conservation projects, encouraging them to participate in tree planting, waste reduction campaigns, and other initiatives that promote a sustainable campus environment. By fostering a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship, Majmaah University contributes to the broader national efforts in climate action.

Moreover, Majmaah University collaborates with government agencies, non-profit organizations, and environmental experts to stay updated on the latest developments in climate science and sustainable practices. This collaboration ensures that the university remains at the forefront of promoting climate action within its academic community.

In conclusion, both Saudi Arabia and Majmaah University are committed to climate action and environmental protection. While the Kingdom implements national strategies to reduce carbon emissions and transition to sustainable energy, Majmaah University plays a vital role in raising awareness and instilling a sense of environmental responsibility among its students, fostering a generation that actively contributes to the global fight against climate change.

Activities of the Department of Biology at the College of Education for the Global Warming Program

The College of Education (Department of Biology) held on Tuesday, 7/1/1436 a global warming program, the program was a PowerPoint presentation that included the definition of warming, which is a rise in temperature in the environment as a result of a change in the flow of thermal energy from and to the environment.

And about global warming:

But with the progress in industry and means of transportation since the industrial revolution until now with the reliance on coal, petroleum and natural gas as a primary source of energy, and with the combustion of these fossil fuels to produce energy and the use of chlorofluorocarbons in industry in abundance, in large quantities exceeding what the atmosphere needs to maintain the temperature of the earth, and therefore the presence of those additional quantities of those gases led to the retention of a greater amount of heat in the atmosphere, and therefore it is natural that the temperature of the earth's surface begins in increasing.

And about its causes:

There is a team opposed to this phenomenon, they see that there are many reasons why it is not certain that the increase in global warming causes a rise in temperature on the earth's surface, as they see that there are cycles of rise and fall of the earth's surface temperature, and that the earth's climate naturally witnesses hot periods and other cold periods, citing the icy or somewhat cold period that was between the 17th and 18th century in Europe. They also confirm this view of the beginning of the existence of a rise in the temperature of the earth, which began in 1900 and continued until the mid-forties, and then began to decline in the period between the mid-forties and mid-seventies, so that they predicted the imminent occurrence of another ice age, then the temperature of the earth began to rise again, and began with the eighties the idea of causing the increase in global warming in the temperature of theearth.

International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies

http://mu.sa/3pZlY

#

In 2019, the United Nations General Assembly designated September 7 as the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, and this indicates the importance of clean clean air and the urgent need to make great efforts from international bodies, which have a role - directly or indirectly - in contributing to improving air quality, reducing air pollution, and mitigating the effects of climate change and its benefit on human health..

Air purity is of great importance to human health and daily life, especially if we consider that air pollution is the greatest environmental threat to human health and one of the leading causes of death and diseases that can be avoided at the global level, as well as the negative impact that air pollution has on women, children and the elderly, if the proportion of those breathing polluted air reaches nine out of ten people, leading to the death of 7 million people, including 000,600 children..

To achieve this, UNEP has collaborated with several companies and institutions, including the Swiss air quality technology company IQAir, to launch a global machine for calculating air pollution, which relies on the largest air quality data platform in the world, and was launched in 2019 to estimate the exposure of the population in any country.

The General Assembly was encouraged by the increasing interest of the international community in clean air, including the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented in the Middle East Green Initiative, a regional project led by the Kingdom to reduce the effects of climate change on the region, and joint action to achieve the goals of global climate action, through expanding regional cooperation and forming infrastructure capable of reducing emissions and protecting the environment.

Saudi SEFAL also reaffirms what Mr. Guterres calledon the Secretary-General of the United Nations to work together to combat air pollution, and identified some solutions, namely:

  • Investing in renewable energy and a rapid transition away from fossil fuels.
  • Quickly transition to zero-emission vehicles and alternative modes of transportation.
  • Enable greater cleanliness of cooking, heating and cooling.
  • Recycling waste instead of incineration.
