STUDENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING PAY A SCIENTIFIC VISIT TO THE POWER STATION IN JALAJIL

In the light of keenness of the Faculty of Engineering on the integration of the theoretical and practical sides, and in order to develop the practical skills for students , Committee of Student Activities, in the Faculty of Engineering, has organized  a scientific visit for the Electrical Engineering students to visit the Power Station in Jalajil. The visit has been supervised by Dr. Ahmed Jalal, Coordinator of the Electrical Engineering Department, and some members of the faculty staff in the Department on Wednesday 24/01/1435 H .

During the trip, students got acquainted  with the various electrical units of the station components  such as the console panel, therefore the students were introduced to its parts and how to control the voltages entering into the station and the emerging power currents, and the connection of  the console panel to the central console panel. Then the students observed the electrical security panel in the station, which works when an error occurs lead to high or low voltage , and the spare capacity panel , which operates when the power is off, in order to restart the Power Station after the loss of the incoming electrical power provided to the station from the electrical grid , in addition to  inspect the transformer with capacity of 400 Mega Watt and get acquainted with the inside, outside, installation and protection.

Students also briefed on the method of transformers connection with the power currents of high-voltage , and the use of electrical voltage sink transformers to reduce the higher electrical voltage to the level of usable low-voltage . At the end of the trip, students expressed their happiness of the benefit they obtained from this visit to the Station Power in Jalajil that has contributed significantly to the enrichment of their practical experience in the field of electric power stations, their components and how they work.
