DEANSHIP OF LIBRARIES AFFAIRS ORGANIZES A COURSE ON USING THE SAUDI DIGITAL LIBRARY AND RESEARCH SKILLS IN THE DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT

As Deanship of Libraries Affairs is seeking to activate the electronic information resources (Databases and digital library) being so crucial to students and teaching staff in research and teaching, Deanship has conducted a series of training sessions on how to use databases and Saudi Digital Library. The Deanship has conducted a training course entitled: "Using Saudi Digital Library and Research Skills in the Digital Environment" for teaching staff and students in colleges complex in Alzulfi for one day. The course was attended by eighty three trainees, and the course was held in the university theater in colleges complex in Alzulfi. In fact, the course was presented by Dr. Usamah Khamees, and it has included an introduction to Saudi Digital Library, training on how to do registration, research and browsing by training the attendees on research strategies in the electronic environment and presenting practical examples on how to do research and browsing and dealing with search results. Moreover, the KOHA unified potentials of electronic catalog of the university libraries were presented as well as the search techniques. In this training session, the attendees were introduced to human knowledge sections in the light of Dewey decimal classification in order to equip the students with the skill of reaching the printed books in their college libraries. An electronic training bag has been given to all attendees at the end of the session. This bag contained the scientific material of training day, the catalog of electronic databases, catalog of how to register in the Saudi Digital Library and the catalog of classifying databases in the Saudi Digital Library based on the majors in the university.
