Within the responsibility of the university to provide a safe and supportive academic environment for excellence and innovation and upon the directives of the Rector Dr. Khaled bin Saad Al-Mogren, the Vice-Rectorship, represented by the University Environment and Occupational Health Department, finalized the preparation of the labs of the Colleges of Sciences and Appplied Medical Sciences to win the international standards conformity certificate (OHSAS 18001) on occupational safety and health management system. In this regard, the Vice Rector Dr. Musllam bin Mohammed Al-Dossari said that this project consisted of a number of stages. 1. Contracting the advisory board granting accreditation. The vice rectorship was very keen at this level to deal with an experienced body to guarantee maximum quality in the achievement of the desired objectives of the project. 2. Gap analysis phase. 3. The dissemination of occupational safety culture. 4. The building up of specialized teams. 5. Internal audit. 6. The first phase of the external audit 7. The second phase of the external audit Dr. Musllam Al-Dossari explained that the dissemination of the culture stage and the stage of building up work teams included two kinds of courses. First, educational courses in occupational safety and health management system requirements (OHSAS 18001), which included more than 142 trainees (males and females) from the employees of colleges in different categories of educational, technical and administrative staff. Second, the internal auditor course which aimed to build evaluation teams that will in turn help the targeted colleges achieve the requirements of international standards (OHSAS 18001). Dr. AL Dossari pointed that in the rest of stages, the interaction of colleges with the efforts of the University Environment and Occupational Health Department and the tangible efficiency of faculty and technical staff had a significant impact on the success of the project management as well as the accreditation of the labs by the German board (DAKKS). In this context, Dr. Khaled bin Saad Al-Mugren the Rector thanked and lauded the Vice-rectorship for the exceptional efforts it made to concretize the aspirations of the university and the community to set up a safe and attractive university environment and achieve all the requirements and standards of occupational health to preserve human resources and prevent any health damage caused by the work environment. The rector insisted that the excellence and advancement of a university depends on its qualified and trained staff who are the real investment for the University. At the end of his statement, the Rector directed to apply the occupational safety and health department system in all educational and research university laboratories within a time period not exceeding two academic years because the university believes that occupational safety and health are an essential function added to its three main others.
