On Wednesday, 29/2/1440 AH, The Office of the Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education organized in collaboration with College of Applied Medical Sciences an event to raise awareness about Osteoporosis in the presence of 27 beneficiaries.
The event began with a lecture presented by: Dr. Ghada Shawqi and Dr. Safiata from the Department of Physical Therapy who highlighted the causes and prevention of Osteoporosis, as well as answering the attendees inquiries about its symptoms.
Several other activities were held such as measurement of height and weight for the attendees by the students of Department of Physical Therapy, and taking blood samples by the nursing specialist Nahed from MU medical clinic to test the levels of calcium, vitamin D, and estrogen. Phone numbers and emails were given to receive results of the tests.
The Department of Physical Therapy has also set up an educational pavilion on Osteoporosis; important tips and exercises to help strengthen bones and muscles for better health. Fresh milk, peanuts, and pistachios were distributed as ways of osteoporosis prevention and calcium promotion.
Rafed Voluntary Team invited students of all colleges to attend the event and visit the pavilion which included: a game named (Jenaga); a two-player competition to answer questions about Osteoporosis and the winner gets a prize.
Women's Community Training Center, represented by Ms. Khulod Ja'ilan Al Rashedi, thanked the Vice-Dean of College of Applied Medical Science Dr. Dana Al Yahya and the participants: Dr. Randa Al Aroussi, Dr. Savita, Dr.Johara Khan, and Dr. Mahoash Hafeez for their effective contribution in achieving the goals of this initiative.
The attendees thanked MU Rector Dr. Khalid bin Saed Al Muqren, the Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education Dr. Omar bin Musaed Al Sharyofi, the Vice-Dean of the Office of the Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education female campus Dr. Maha bint Ibrahim Al Kalthem, the Director of the Women Community Training Center Ms. Khulod Ja'ilan Al Rashedi for their efforts in serving the local community through launching purposeful initiatives and programs.
