Zilfi College of Education OrganizesTraining Program Entitled “Assessment for Learning”
The Assessment Unit at the College of Education in Zulfi organized a training program entitled (Assessment for Learning) on Thursday 30/04/1436 in the training hall at the College. Dr. Mona Twakol Al-Sayed, assistant-professor of Psychological Health and Special Education at the Department of Educational Science in the College, conducted the training program. The College staff members and lecturers were the targets of the training program which aimed at illustrating the goals of learning and assessment frameworks. Such programs are necessary because college staff need training on how to identify and develop the assessment methods in the classroom. An overview on the research supporting the effective evaluation was presented along with help to faculty members to determine the strengths and areas of development as to their knowledge of assessment for learning.. One of the main themes discussed in the program was the importance of activating the role of students in the learning process and the development of assessment and evaluation approaches that are consistent with the quality of learning outcomes. Clarifying the principles of assessment for learning, its characteristics, planning properly for it, its main strategies and its relationship to the curriculum were all sufficiently addressed in the program as well. The training recommended the use of the techniques and skills of assessment for learning so that it becomes part of daily learning. Examples of such daily learning include discussing with students the goals of learning and involving them in the learning and assessment processes, planning for activities that enable them to determine their progress and identify the obstacles facing them, giving them oral and written feedback, defining subsequent learning and planning for group discussions, self-assessment and peer evaluation. These examples of assessment activities all aim to support students to become more independent learners.
