20250804812The College of Science, through its Community Service and Volunteer Unit and in collaboration with the Department of Biology, organized a specialized scientific workshop titled “Laboratory Techniques for Bacterial Culture,”. The workshop was presented by Dr. Salma Al-Johani, who addressed high school students.
The session introduced students to the basics of handling bacteria in the laboratory, including proper sterilization techniques and methods for culturing bacteria on suitable growth media. It also featured hands-on experiments demonstrating how to prepare culture media, distribute samples using sterile swabs, and incubate plates to observe bacterial colony growth.
The program further included applying the Gram staining technique to distinguish between Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and understand their cell wall structures, along with a practical activity to measure heat transfer and explore cell wall composition.
The workshop developed students' scientific skills, enhanced their accuracy and observation abilities, and strengthened their understanding of essential laboratory procedures.
