20250804812The Volunteer and Community Service Unit at the College of Sciences collaborated with the Department of Physics, organized a workshop titled “The Role of Renewable Energy in Agricultural Development and Environmental Protection.” The workshop was held at the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Office in Zulfi Governorate.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Mansour Al-Habradi and attended by the Director of the Ministry’s office, a number of staff members, farmers, and individuals interested in the field. Highlighting the importance of renewable energy in supporting sustainable agricultural development and protecting the environment, Dr. Al-Habradi highlighted the most important renewable energy sources in the Kingdom, particularly solar and wind energy.
Dr. Al-Habradi explained that Saudi Vision 2030 places significant emphasis on renewable energy as part of the national strategy for economic diversification and reducing dependence on oil, a shift that is expected to accelerate development across various sectors. He pointed out that renewable energy contributes to providing cost-effective power for farms through its use in irrigation and cooling systems, helping to reduce operational costs for farmers while increasing productivity.
He further emphasized the role of renewable energy in reducing carbon emissions through the use of clean energy sources, conserving natural resources by rationalizing water use, and supporting environmental sustainability.
Dr. Al-Habardi highlighted the sector’s role in creating new job opportunities, improving quality of life through a cleaner and more sustainable environment, and strengthening the national economy by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and diversifying energy sources.
The workshop also explored global success stories in renewable energy, underscoring the importance of learning from the experiences of advanced countries in this field.
The session concluded with an open discussion, during which the speaker addressed questions and inquiries from attendees.
