20250804812The Volunteer and Community Service Unit in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, conducted a virtual workshop titled “A Chemical Journey to Understanding Water and Air Pollution.” The workshop was delivered by Dr. Shadliya Mahmoud via the Irtiqaa Platform and aimed to raise environmental awareness by explaining the chemical causes of water and air pollution, their harmful effects on human health and living organisms, and their broader impact on the ecosystem.
The workshop explained various pollution sources, both natural and human-induced, with a focus on the chemical reactions involved in the formation and spread of pollutants in the environment. It also highlighted common pollutants such as toxic gases, fine particulate matter, and dissolved chemical substances in water, along with their mechanisms of impact.
The workshop also presented a range of scientific and practical solutions to reduce pollution, including the use of modern treatment technologies, promoting environmentally responsible behaviors, and emphasizing the role of individuals and communities in protecting the environment. The session enriched participants’ knowledge and encouraged them to adopt more sustainable, eco-friendly practices.
