MU RECTOR LAUNCHES 5TH VERSION OF THE UNIVERSITY PORTAL

In the presence of vice-rectors, deans of colleges and deanships and directors of administrations, MU rector, Dr. Khalid al-Muqren, launched the 5th version of the university portal in the auditorium at main campus. He commended the efforts expanded by the Information Technology Deanship staff in developing the e-portal according to the highest standards.

Expressing thanks to MU rector for his support to make the achievement possible, tDr. Mohammed al-Weneen, dean of IT, said that the e-portal was launched since the establishment of the university to be the official platform to know everything about the university.

Over the past 10 years, the university has striven to adopt up-to-date technology, and the e-portal has gone through several phases of development, resulting in launching the 5th version. This version was developed using the latest architecture and technology and preserved the old content, added Dr. al-Weneen.

Migrating more than 42000 pages, the new e-portal was designed using up-to-date technology to keep up the expansion of the university. The e-portal features more than 65 subdomains which are run by 81 supervisors who received training on the latest technology used in this version.

To serve this big number of supervisors, a new technology was used that are expected to contribute in making content management process more user-friendly and meeting the requirements of supervisors.

Dr. al-Weneen explained that over 1350000 words have been translated in the past few years to ensure that the all pages are available in both Arabic and English. To achieve this aim and make it feasible, a new built-in translation system was developed to manage the translation of e-portal content.

The content published by supervisors on the e-portal is edited by a quality team at the E-portal Unit and then sent to the translation team where the content is translated and proofread before an approval for publishing is granted, highlighted the dean.

To meet the expectations of more than 2 million users annually and to improve user experience, the e-portal was re-designed using the three-click-rule, that is a user of a website should be able to find any information with no more than three mouse clicks.

Although the speed test of the last version was outstanding, the latest development has greatly contributed in maintaining high website speed and performance optimization.

Dr. al-Weneen concluded by highlighting that the e-portal features more than 42000 page and more than 100000 file, and meets the international standards such as W3C and Comodo.
