In line with the series of seminars held during the academic year 1440/1441, the first seminar was conducted in the presence of the Head of the Department, Dr. Fayez Al-Fayez and faculty members.
The seminar which was presented by Dr. Ashraf Hayder is titled “Semantic Similarity Measures Between Words”.
Dr. Hayder talked about the possibility of identifying similarities between different terms such as words, sentences, documents and concepts - or the so-called semantic similarity scale- between two groups of words to find the degree of congruence in terms of lexical meaning. This has a great importance in many areas related to computer applications such as information retrieval, educational system and summarizing texts.
Several promising methodologies were introduced based on different types of artificial intelligence used in search engines to determine the degree of similarity between words.
