The Alumni Affairs Unit organizes a workshop titled: "Using Artificial Intelligence Tools"

The Vice-Dean's Office for Educational Affairs and Development at the College of Science, represented by the Alumni Affairs Unit and in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, organized a training workshop titled: “Using Artificial Intelligence Tools.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Ayman Al-Johari, who focused on exploring the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence in scientific research and academic writing.

The workshop covered several key topics, including:

  • A historical introduction to the development of artificial intelligence from its early beginnings to the modern era.

  • An overview of AI tools used in scientific writing, such as:

    • Grammar correction

    • Text paraphrasing

    • Summarizing research papers and books

    • Extracting data from PDF files

    • Creating innovative presentations

    • Detecting AI-generated writing versus human writing

The session also addressed academic integrity and the ethical challenges associated with AI usage, and proposed solutions to enhance academic honesty.

Workshop Objectives Included:

  • Training participants on the use of AI tools in writing

  • Modifying text structures and summarizing content

  • Extracting data from various sources without reading full texts

  • Creating presentations using AI

  • Verifying the authenticity of texts

  • Distinguishing between human-written and AI-generated content
