SDG1: NO POVERTY

SDG1: No Poverty

Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG1) focuses on eradicating poverty in all its forms worldwide. Saudi Arabia is actively working towards this goal by implementing various initiatives and policies, both at the national level and within institutions like Majmaah University.

KSA’s Efforts in Addressing SDG1 (No Poverty)

The Saudi government has launched numerous programs aimed at reducing poverty and improving living standards. Key initiatives include:

  • Vision 2030: A strategic framework aimed at diversifying the economy, reducing unemployment, and increasing the quality of life. Vision 2030 encompasses several projects aimed at boosting economic participation and reducing poverty by providing employment opportunities, enhancing education, and encouraging entrepreneurship.

  • Social Security Programs: Saudi Arabia’s government provides financial support to low-income families through social welfare programs like the Citizens Account Program, which offers monthly stipends to needy households. Additionally, programs like the Sanid unemployment assistance and Hafiz employment incentives support individuals transitioning into the workforce, further reducing poverty.

  • Housing Initiatives: The government has implemented affordable housing projects to improve living conditions for low-income families. Programs like the Sakani program, under the Ministry of Housing, aim to increase homeownership by providing financial support and affordable housing options.

  • Humanitarian Aid: Through entities like the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), Saudi Arabia is contributing to poverty reduction globally by offering humanitarian assistance to developing countries facing poverty and crises.

Majmaah University’s Role in SDG1 and Poverty Alleviation

At the institutional level, Majmaah University is also actively contributing to SDG1 through education, awareness, and support programs aimed at reducing poverty:

  • Scholarships and Financial Aid: The university provides scholarships and financial assistance to low-income students, enabling access to higher education for students who might not otherwise afford it. This effort directly aligns with reducing poverty by offering educational opportunities that lead to better job prospects and financial independence.

  • Community Engagement: Majmaah University engages in community development programs, particularly in rural areas around Majmaah and Al Majma’ah Governorate. These initiatives often involve providing skills training, workshops, and employment programs for local communities, fostering economic growth and reducing poverty at the grassroots level.

  • Research and Awareness: The university plays a significant role in conducting research on poverty-related issues and organizing seminars and workshops to raise awareness about poverty and strategies to alleviate it. These academic efforts contribute to creating solutions and informing policymakers about effective interventions.

  • Collaborations with Charities: Majmaah University collaborates with local charities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide support and resources to underprivileged communities, ensuring that those in need receive assistance in various forms, including food, shelter, and educational tools.

Both Saudi Arabia at the national level and Majmaah University at the institutional level are committed to addressing SDG1, focusing on the eradication of poverty through financial support, economic empowerment, education, and community engagement. These efforts align with global priorities, helping to uplift individuals and communities and ensure a future with reduced poverty and greater prosperity.
