Quiz Submission Views

Submission Views allow you to control what a course participant sees, and when they see it, after they have submitted their quiz. You may control options such as allowing participants to see their score, the class average, what questions they got wrong, whether they can see the correct answers, etc.

To configure the Submission Views do the following:

Submission Views Default View and Add additional View buttons2. Decide whether you want to modify the existing Default View or create your own custom submission view as follows:

Editing the Default view allows you to modify all standard quiz submission options, but does not include the options to restrict the submission view by date, attempt score, and/or IP address. If you would like to edit and use the default view settings, click the blue Default View link. Continue to the Edit Default Submission View section below for the remaining directions.

Editing the Add Additional View provides you the same options as the Default View, but adds the ability to restrict the submission view by date and time, attempt score, and/or IP address. To add an additional submission view, click the Add Additional View button. Continue to the Add Additional Submission View section below for the remaining directions.



Edit Default Submission View

To edit the default submission view:

Edit Default Submission view page3. The Message field contains the text participants see after submitting their quiz. The standard message used is Your quiz has been submitted successfully, but you can use any message that you would like to relay to participants upon completing their quiz.

4. Show Questions: If you want to participants to be able to view the quiz questions after submitting their quiz attempt place a bullet next to Yes, then select from the following available options:

  • Show questions answered incorrectly: With this option selected, participants will only see quiz questions that they answered incorrectly or that they received partial credit on (less than 100% of possible points).

  • Show questions answered correctly: With this option selected, participants will only see quiz questions that they answered correctly (received 100% of possible points).

  • Show all questions without user responses: With this option selected, participants will only see questions for which they did not provide an answer.

  • Show all questions with user responses: With this option selected, articipants will see all questions for which they submitted an answer, the answer they submitted, and whether their answer was correct or incorrect.

  • If you would like for participants to be shown the correct answer to the questions you have chosen to display above, check the Show question answers checkbox.

  • If you would like participants to be shown how they scored on a question by question basis check the Show question score and out of score checkbox.

5. Check this box if you would like participants to be shown the score they achieved on each quiz attempt along with the overall score for all attempts place a checkmark in the Score checkbox.

Tip: If you will be manually grading all or part of the quiz we suggest that both the Show question score and out of score and Show attempt score and overall attempt score options not be displayed to participants until after manual grading has been completed. If these options are enabled the score shown to participants will be reflect the zeroes D2L assigns to questions it cannot auto-grade (Long Answer Questions).

6. Statistics: Within this section you have the following options:

  • Show class average: Check this check box if you want participants to see the average score achieved by the class.

  • Show score distribution: Check this check box if you want participants to see a graph displaying a distribution of the grades achieved by the class on this quiz.

7. Click the Save button when finished.

Add Additional Submission View

To add an additional submission view:

Add Additional Submission View screen3. Enter a name for your submission view in the Name field. Try to assign a name that indicates what is unique about this submission view, such as Post Attempt 2 Show all Questions

4. In the  Message field type the message you want participants to see after submitting their quiz. The standard message used in the Default View is Your quiz has been submitted successfully, but you can use any message that you would like to relay to participants upon completing their quiz.

5.  If you would like to make the submission view available only after a specific date and time, set the corresponding date and time within the Date fields.

6. If you would like to restrict access to the submission view by IP address check the IP Restriction (IPv4) check box. The IP address restriction on this page is based on the IP address restriction used on the Quiz Properties tab. For more information about configuring IP address restrictions for you quiz visit the Optional Advanced Restrictions section of the Quiz Properties help page.

7. If you would like to make the submission view available only after the participant has completed a specified quiz attempt (Ex.Quiz Attempt 2) select the desired attempt from the Attempt drop down menu. If you would like to further restrict the submission view, you can require that that the participants score meet a minimum and/or maximum score. To utilize this option enter a minimum and/or maximum score in the Min Score and Max Score fields.

8. If you would like to allow participants to view this submission view for a limited amount of time after they submits their quiz attempt place a checkmark in the Limited Duration checkbox, then type the number of minutes you would like to allow the submission view to be visible in the minutes text box.

9. Show Questions: If you want to participants to be able to view the quiz questions after submitting their quiz attempt place a bullet next to Yes, then select from the following available options:

  • Show questions answered incorrectly: With this option selected, participants will only see quiz questions that they answered incorrectly or that they received partial credit on (less than 100% of possible points).

  • Show questions answered correctly: With this option selected, participants will only see quiz questions that they answered correctly (received 100% of possible points).

  • Show all questions without user responses: With this option selected, participants will only see questions for which they did not provide an answer.

  • Show all questions with user responses: With this option selected, articipants will see all questions for which they submitted an answer, the answer they submitted, and whether their answer was correct or incorrect.

  • If you would like for participants to be shown the correct answer to the questions you have chosen to display above, check the Show question answers checkbox.

  • If you would like participants to be shown how they scored on a question by question basis check the Show question score and out of score checkbox.
