The e-learning unit at the College of Computer and Information Sciences held a training course on the use of electronic and distance learning platform (D2L). The head of the eLearning unit Mr. Ezzan Al-Khorem conducted the training, which targeted freshmen. The trainer made a thorough explanation of all the tools and processes offered by the electronic learning system (D2L). The platform aims to provide an electronic learning environment relying on modern technologies used in the academic field to provide distinguished and efficient content for both teacher and learner. The advantages and benefits of this type of education are the economy made in time, effort and cost, in addition to the possibility of the computer to improve the overall level of academic achievement, and help the faculty member as well as the student to create an attractive learning environment.

Mr. AL Khorem talked about the similarity between the e-learning environment and the traditional one. However, the first is characterized by the quick access and ease of options associated with different aspects of the academic process. It does not rely on the time and space factors of the traditional academic process, which enables high flexibility for communication and the accomplishment of the various activities and tasks.

This training can be summarized in the following:

  • Developing students' skills and ability to interact with modern technologies.
  • Activation of the electronic and distance learning system at the College of Computer and Information Sciences.
  • Provide assistance to students.
  • Providing students with the necessary skills to use communication and information technologies.
  • Expand e-learning scopes to serve the community.
