Astronomical Observatory Receives the Dean of King Salman Institute

The Astronomical Observatory received the Dean of King Salman Institute, Dr. Hamad AlOmran, and his accompanying delegation on Monday 7/8/1436 AH, corresponding with 25/5/2015, at 11:00 am. They were received by the Dean of the college, Dr. Tarek Suleiman Albahlal; the Director of the observatory, Mr. Abdullah Aba Hussein; and the Director of public relations in the observatory, Mr. Ahmad AlGhiyamah; as well as the staff of the observatory. At the beginning of the visit, visitors were welcomed. Then, the tour started in the observatory. Dr. Sabri Ali explained the four sections of the showroom: the telescopes and their utility, the Solar System and its varied physical and mechanical features, and the different types of galaxies and nebulae. Afterwards, the astronomical expert in the center, Mr. Abdullah Alkhedeiri, explained the difference between the real motion and the apparent motion of the Moon, illustrating how an Arabic month starts as well as the Moon phases and the occurrence of eclipse. Moreover, the Astronomical Dome was visited where Prof. Majdi Yusuf Ameen gave a brief explanation on it and its usages. This was followed by a detailed explanation on the motion of stars, galaxies, the Moon and the Sun and how stars are distributed in the sky. At the end of the visit, the visitors expressed their impression with the astronomical observatory and extended their thanks to everyone for their great hospitality.
