The Obstacles of Automatic Translation of Rhetorical Expressions in Political Speech from Arabic to English

The College of Sciences and Humanities establishes its Fifth Discussion Episode entitled "The Obstacles of Automatic Translation of Rhetorical Expressions in Political Speech from Arabic to English"

In the context of the discussion and debate about the societal issues that are related to the scientific disciplines in the College of Science and Humanities of Hutat Soudir, the department of English organized a discussion episode entitled "The Obstacles of Automatic Translation of Rhetorical Expressions in Political Speech from Arabic to English". The discussion was delivered by the Assistant Professor at the English department Haythem Alyoussef. He talked about assessing the output of one of the systems of automatic translation and displayed its flaws when translating a system of rhetorical expressions in the political speeches from Arabic to English which is shown in the confusion of some strange words from a semantic approach. He concluded his lecture and recommended that although the automatic translation may sometimes lead to unintended change of meaning, the automatic systems may be a reliable tool to produce more accurate translations in the future.

The end of the lecture was open for discussion and debate. Dr. Saleh Ahmad Abdelatif directed a dialogue in which he responded to all the inquiries of the audience. His explanations enriched the discussion and debate.
