Workshop on Academic Advisor‘s Tasks, Skills and Work Mechanisms and Procedures

In cooperation with the College of Public Relations, the Student Support Unit launched the Academic Advising Week program in the college on 11/15/1436 H., at 11:30 am. The inauguration included a workshop on the academic advisor’s tasks, skills and work mechanism at the Presence Hall in the College. The workshop was honored by the presence of His Excellency, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Yusuf Bin Mohammed Al-Mahus; His Excellency the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Adel Al-Alyan; and the faculty members. At the beginning, Dr. Yusuf Bin Mohammed Al-Mahus welcomed the attendees and talked about the importance of this workshop and the important role that could be played by faculty members towards students as well as the maximum benefit obtained from such academic advising programs, including the achievement of the academic excellence for a student; he also stressed the significant role of academic advisors Moreover, Dr. Jalal Al-Sedik, head of the Unit, gave a presentation on academic advisors’ role, tasks, skills, and work mechanisms and procedures. Dr. Awadallah Jaafar also presented a brief and practical explanation of an academic advisor’s student file, which involved the student study plan, the addition and withdrawal processes, the student’s schedule, the registered, passed and remaining courses in the plan, the student level as well as the marks of the previous terms. In addition, Dr. Ayman Jaradat talked about linking all the new students with their academic advisors, and the way to cope with weak students. Furthermore, Dr. Abdu Khalaf made a presentation on the positive and negative implications of the academic advising of the last academic year 1435-1436 H. The workshop was concluded with a question addressed by the Dean of the College to the faculty members, regarding the means to encourage a student to interact effectively with his academic advisor. After an extensive discussion, they came up with some proposals and recommendations concerning the field of Academic Advising.
